TIPS ON EFFECTIVE NIGHT STUDY-- Saad.A.Bashar
It is a normal procedure towards exams for students or pupils to plan to devote a special time to study either individually or in group to boost and enhance their performance for a pending exam. Although, different thoughts have debated about the best time to study, whether it's during the Night or the Day. Yes, both sides have a genuine point to or against the other and I am not in either point to justify which is the best. Since Night studying is the most common among Nigerians and perhaps in the world at large. I will like to look into the TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE NIGHT STUDY which will enumerate the problems faced during this endeavor and solutions to them.

Firstly, KNOW YOURSELF

Many students fail in this area a lot. Being the first and foremost thing I would commend a person who intends to involve in this endeavor. This is the most crucial aspect of them all. It is very important, you can’t just get involved into this exercise by comparing yourself with your roommates, colleagues or even siblings. You may be different. Try to create a time to study your personality to know when and where suits you most. If you are the kind of person that enjoys studying during the day, better!. Don't try to adapt to anybody's way of life for that may turn out to be a failure. Develop yours and that is how you will surely find your ultimate success. And of course another category under this is' time'. Your time may be different from mine, That boy may choose to be studying 6hrs during the night and you may study 2hrs. It's not the matter of how lengthy it went, But what matters most is How much you have utilized the time spent in this course.

Secondly, YOUR DIET

The kind of food you take also matters a lot in running a successful midnight study. Although, It is more important to take a meal that will satisfy you, but it is most important to avoid heavy meals that will fill up your stomach. I will like you to adopt the words of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that says that: "Leave a third of your stomach for food, the second third for water and the last third for air." Yes! This really works for this exercise. So, It is advised that you avoid eating to the fullest before performing this daunting exercise because it goes a long way in preventing you from dozing off. Although, It is normal to doze off even when you don't take anything before that time, But the fact is, Heavy meals makes you doze off and you end up not achieving your goal for that night.

Thirdly, YOUR COMPANY

Your company also determines how this exercise runs. If this is to be done in a group, Make sure the person that must be accompanying you to the study room or library have the same mindset with you. This will surely enhance your energy in achieving your target. And if you want to carry out this task alone probably in a public place, ensure the person sitting close to you is also focus in order to avoid any form of distraction during this endeavor. This really goes a long way in enhancing your determination for that period of time especially if your neighbor seems to be more focus than you, This eventually leads to competition for advancement right?

Fourthly, YOUR DEVICE

Your device also goes a long way in determining how successful you wanted your goal to be in this exercise. Devices such as phones, iPods, laptops e.t.c should be avoided completely near you during your course except in a case when the device is your primary resource during this course. In this case, you should launch the airplane mode. But if otherwise, ensure your mobile phone is switched off or at least launch the silent mode. This could distract you from your plans and even jeopardize your agenda for that period of time.

Lastly, THE VENUE

The venue to be used for this course is very important, including the brightness. A brighter and lighter venue is more recommended for this course. This goes a long way in reducing your eyes from being strained during this process, increases the activeness of the eyes and also prevents you from dozing off. And also the temperature should also be considered. Ensure the environmental temperature is balanced with your body temperature i.e neither exothermic nor endothermic. And there are some cases whereby due to a stress you must have undergone before commencing this course led you to be in a state of fatigue, you will definitely know that a low temperature is recommended for you. Ensure the environmental temperature is not against your body.
